Teachers of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language at the Institute of Philology of Vernadsky CFU and international students of Vernadsky CFU’s Medical Institute visited Bakhchisarai where they went on excursions to the Khans’ Palace, the Monastery of the Holy Dormition and the Chufut Kale.
“During the excursion, the students got acquainted with the history of Crimea, which dates back thousands of years. Future medics learned that the peninsula was inhabited by different peoples who left unique monuments and artifacts. Thus, the central part of the excursion route was a visit to the famous architectural monument of the XVI-XVIII centuries – Khans’ Palace, the former residence of the rulers of the Crimean Khanate” – said Nikolai Vovk, a lecturer at the Department of English Philology.
International students were especially interested in the Fountain of Tears, a famous sculptural creation dating back to the XVIII century to which Alexander Pushkin dedicated his lines.
During visit, the student explored the beauty of the Maryam-Dere gorge, felt the special atmosphere of the Monastery of the Holy Dormition, visited the Chufut-Kale, an ancient cave city the history of which spanned several centuries.
In addition to familiarizing themselves with the landmarks of Bakhchisarai, the international students were also able to communicate in Russian with their teachers, each other and local residents.
