Key geopolitical events of 2024 discussed at Vernadsky CFU

On 12 December 2024, the Vernadsky CFU’s Office of International Affairs hosted a traditional end-of-year international roundtable discussion focusing on ‘Geopolitical Results of the Year’. This was the tenth annual event of its kind, which was attended by the University’s academic and administrative staff members and students, both home and international, as well as by local and regional officials and public figures.

The agenda of the roundtable was shaped by the current geopolitical situation in the world and in the country.

The roundtable was chaired by Prof. Sergei Iurchenko, the Vernadsky CFU’s First Vice-Rector and Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Information Policy, who commented: “To our round table we welcome all those who are interested in international affairs. Discussing these issues now, when our country and the world are facing the biggest crisis, primarily in the Middle East, a crisis whose components are impacting the geopolitical environment, including that in the Black Sea region, is highly relevant. What evaluation should the researchers provide, what they can recommend to politicians – all these specific tasks are being addressed at this roundtable in the Office of International Affairs.”

The event featured lively and thought-provoking discussions about the major global events and trends of 2024 and how they compare to those of the previous year, along with the geopolitical challenges Russia is currently facing, and the University’s achievements and successes in its international initiatives.

The roundtable was held as part of the Priority-2030 Strategic Academic Leadership Programme.
