The annual friendly football and volleyball games between Vernadsky CFU international and home students titled ‘Sporting Unity’ were played at the Medical Institute named after S.I. Georgievsky.
The games brought together Vernadsky CFU students India, the Republic of Congo, Ghana, Zambia, Kenya, Nigeria, Russia, and other countries.
The event was aimed at not only to promote a healthy lifestyle in the Vernadsky CFU community, but also to foster positive life values – such as respect, understanding of others, and inclusion of all diverse cultures and religions – in students.
“Sport is a process of mutual enrichment through exchange of experience, energy, and strength. By sharing their knowledge and perspective, our students understand how international students are feeling about life in Russia. Whatever the students learn here, they will take back to their countries. While international students are here, we educate them; when they leave, they become ambassadors of Russia in their countries. The next-generation global image of Russia depends on how our interaction is realised,” commented Gevorg Gabrielian, Head of the Office for International Affairs at Vernadsky CFU.
The football tournament ended with a victory for the International Students team while the volleyball event was won by the Elite team.
“We were focused only on winning and had just two days to prepare. All the players did a great job, and we also want to express our respect to our opponents,” said Chris Muelle, a player of the winning football team.
All participants were given certificates and awards.
The event was held as part of the Eighth International Forum of the University’s Foreign Students and Graduates ‘Crimea in the Global Research and Education Community’.
This event was held as part of the Priority-2030 Strategic Academic Leadership Programme.
