Africa Day Celebrated at Vernadsky CFU

Africa Day 2022 was celebrated at the V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University with a diverse and exciting range of activities on Wednesday 25 May.

The event, that attracted over 500 people and was also attended by the University’s senior officials, was dedicated to celebrating and highlighting the cultural diversity and richness that exist on the African continent and to providing opportunity for students to learn more about Africa, its history, land, and people.

Vernadsky CFU currently has over 2,500 international students, of whom more than 100 come from 13 African countries, including: Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Africa Day is annually celebrated on May 25 in various countries on the African continent and around the world to commemorate the foundation on that day back in 1963 of the Organisation of African Unity now known as the African Union, to mark the determination of the people of Africa to liberate the continent from colonialism, and to foster its further progress.
