Vernadsky CFU Hosts Diwali Festival

Vernadsky CFU students celebrated the triumph of good over evil during the Diwali festival of lights celebration at the University. Organised by Indian students of the International Medical Faculty at the Vernadsky CFU’s Medical Institute, the event brought together around one thousand participants and was aimed at promoting India’s rich cultural heritage and giving an opportunity for students from different backgrounds to interact and learn from each other.

“Our university is home to around two thousand international students, the majority of whom are from India. It is important to help them adapt to life in the country as fully as possible. However, the process of social and cultural adaptation is mutual: we must also learn about their traditions. That is why our university supports events organised by students from different countries,” explained Sergei Iurchenko, First Vice-Rector and Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Information Policy at V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University.

The programme of the festival featured traditional and modern Indian dances, vocal performances, and theatrical sketches. All participants also had the opportunity to taste a variety of Indian dishes, including kachori and samosa.

Diwali, one of the most widespread festivals in India, is a symbolic celebration of the triumph of good over evil held in either October or November by Hindus and others in India and elsewhere, with lights representing good triumphing over evil, which is represented by darkness.
